Charitable Bingo Now Legal In Arkansas

In a move that is more than 10 years in the making, non-profit organizations in Arkansas are now offering legal bingo games for the first time. Many of these organizations operated illegal bingo games for years, with authorities looking the other way and allowing the games to be played. A recent constitutional amendment finally allows these organizations to offer the games legally, as long as the proceeds go to charity and the State collects it's tax money.

Arkansas' dog and horse tracks saw about $1.8 million in wagering revenue from electronic games of skill in November, the first month the machines were in use under a new law, according to filings with the state.

Fort Smith Mayor to rally anti-casino residents on the river

Mayor Ray Baker is opposed to a proposed riverfront casino, and he's encouraging those who feel the same way to rally with him on the river. Friends of Fort Smith, an anti-casino group, says they've received the support of about 15-hundred people opposed to a casino, and Mayor Ray Baker is hoping to tap into them. He's rallying the Christian community to meet at Harry E. Kelley River Park Thursday night at seven.
