The PartyPoker Dutch Open is quickly shaping up to become the premier Dutch Poker Tournament. Tournament organizers have been hard at work announcing television deals and a long line up of professional poker players who will be taking part in the Dutch Open poker tournament. Even though the first Dutch Open will not take place for a couple of more weeks, many are beginning to speculate that this will be an ongoing event that will take place for many years to come.
Many who follow the professional poker tournament circuit have come to realize that Dutch players have gained a unique position in the game, particularly in recent years. While they may not always share the same limelight as more well known poker celebrities, these players have consistently cashed in on major tournaments for years, giving them an impressive winning record that few seasoned veterans can match.
Because of the contributions that Dutch poker players make to the game as a whole, PartyPoker set out to celebrate these players by organizing a 'Dutch only' poker tournament that caters to the needs of professional poker players. Thus, the PartyPoker Dutch Open was born as the world's premier poker tournament that is open to Dutch players only.
In a recent press announcement, a PartyPoker spokesman said, "Dutch players are a major force in the poker world and this is a great way to showcase their talents. We're delighted to be sponsoring this tournament but we decided not to insist on orange felt on the table. After all, the orange and dark orange chips were the subject of a lot of debate at the WSOP. We're not sure if it is the favourite colour of poker players other than main event winner Jerry Yang at the moment, even if the player is Dutch!"
It is not yet known if the most famous Dutch poker player, Marcel "the singing Dutchman" Luske, will be in attendance. With or without Luske's poker expertise, the tournament has already signed on a number of Dutch poker professionals who are sure to make the tournament an engaging event.
At the head of the pack is Rob Hollink. Hollink has been one of the leading poker players on the European circuit for years, bringing him a great deal of fame in the Netherlands. Hollink has won his share of multi-million dollar poker tournaments, including the main event tournament of the World Poker Tour (WPT). Surprisingly, Hollink will also fill the role of co-commentator on the televised version of the tournament.
Joining Hollink at the PartyPoker Dutch Open will be Rolf "Aces" Slotboom and Milly Uylenbroek. Slotboom is widely regarded as the World's leading Omaha poker player, and just cashed in big during the World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event in Las Vegas. Uylenbroek is an up-and-coming young player who just cashed in while playing the Ladies Texas Holdem Tournament at the World Series of Poker.
Adding to the excitement of the inaugural PartyPoker Dutch Open poker tournament is the fact that the event will be televised. The television production will be taped August 11 - 14 by Matchroom Sport. Matchroom Sport is a company that has an extensive track record of producing televised poker tournaments. The company is owned by international poker promoter, Barry Hearn.
The PartyPoker Dutch Open will begin on August 11. Poker players are invited to join in on the action by paying the admission fee of €2,500. If this seems a little steep, keep in mind that players are competing for a guaranteed €117,000 prize, with €50,000 of that going to first place alone.
