Paris Large Favorite to Host 2012 Olympics at PinnacleSports.com
With Stadium Vote Pending, New York Remains a Long Shot
WILLEMSTAD, Curacao, June 6, 2005 -- Immediately following the release of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) report evaluating the bids by Paris, London, New York, Madrid and Moscow to host the 2012 Olympics, PinnacleSports.com released updated odds on which city will win the July 6th vote to host the games of the XXX Olympiad. The largest sports betting site on the Internet, PinnacleSports.com opened betting on which city would win the right to host the 2012 Olympics in January and has seen customer interest rise as the crucial vote date approaches.
The favorite at PinnacleSports.com before the IOC report gave it the best overall review at 1/6 odds, Paris remains a solid favorite to host the 2012 Summer Games at 2/9 odds (i.e., win $2 for every $9 bet). London appears to have made some headway with their positive review moving from 13/2 before today's report to now standing at 5/1 to win their Olympic bid. The odds on Madrid hosting the 2012 games have improved with the release of the IOC report, moving from 27/1 to currently standing at 20/1 at PinnacleSports.com. The hope that the IOC will grant New York City its first Olympics appears to be in vain as PinnacleSports.com lists the Big Apple at 26/1 to host the 2012 Summer Games. Host of the 1980 Olympic Games, Moscow has seen its chances to be voted host city dwindle following harsh criticism in the IOC report and has fallen from 25/1 to now being 53/1 to win the games of the XXX Olympiad.
"Although four of the five cities received a positive overall review from the IOC, Paris has made the strongest case to host the Games throughout the process and remains a virtual lock to get the 2012 Olympics," said Simon Noble of PinnacleSports.com. "The feel-good story would be if New York's bid was successful after everything the city has been through following the tragedy of 9/11, but unfortunately this story doesn't appear to have a fairytale ending. Despite positive reviews from the IOC, the uncertainty surrounding Manhattan's West Side Stadium makes the Big Apple a long shot to win their Olympic bid."
PinnacleSports.com will accept wagers up to $500 on the city to host the 2012 Olympic Games and will take bets until July 6, when the IOC will choose the host city in Singapore. For further information and the latest odds, please visit http://www.pinnaclesports.com.
