There have been some rumors circulating in the poker world lately that the popular TV show “High Stakes Poker” would be cancelled. In the show the viewer gets to see well-known poker stars play poker at really high stakes. The guy that got people talking was none else than the co-host AJ Benza. But all the rumors have now been discounted by GSN, the network that produce the show. The recently announced that they will make a fifth season of High Stakes Poker.
Much of the shows appeal is that the pros play cash game instead of a poker tournament. Cash games are considered a purer form of poker than tournaments by many poker aficionados.
In an interview a while ago AJ Benza said: “Far as Gabe[Caplan] and I know….the show isn't coming back. Apparently…the network is going to go in a different direction and that ain't good news for our show, especially since we skew a higher-aged audience. Never mind that we’re the network’s No. 1 show.”
Benza’s statement indicated that the most popular poker show on TV would be cancelled. But GSN has now publicly denied this. Jennifer Minezaki, Director of Public Relations at GSN said in a statement: "GSN has picked up the option on the 5th season of HIGH STAKES POKER and continues to enjoy poker on its air." This is a relief for poker fans across the globe. What players that will appear in the fifth season is still not known, but hopefully Scotty Nguyen will make his first appearance and play some serious high-stakes poker.
